Year To Date: 3-0 (+2.63 units)

We’re flying to start the college football season ladies and gentlemen! A 3-0 Week 1 has me feeling great headed into a much better Week 2 slate. Bad news to the haters and losers, for which there are many, I LOVE the board. Let’s get to it.

Penn State -23.5 vs Temple -110

This may be my favorite bet of the week. So many were low on Penn State coming into the season based on the full blown roster turnover with new head coach Matt Campbell coming to Happy Valley. I think some people may have forgotten that Campbell’s Iowa State team from lat year weren’t a bunch of slouches, they have some real talent and it seems to have translated to playing in Pennsylvania. Campbell had a perfect debut last week against Marshall, and I fully expect him to want to keep that up with another blowout win. The biggest piece I’m looking at in this game in the Temple offensive line against Penn State’s stout defensive line. Temple will be without starting left tackle Giakoby Hills, and starting right tackle Kevin Terry is a game time decision. New defensive end Caleb Bacon was a game wrecker against Marshall last week, I expect more of that against the depleted Owls offensive line.

Minnesota Moneyline vs Mississippi State +100

Everyone and their mother’s are talking about the impressive season debut new Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor had last week against Louisiana-Monroe. Now, I don’t want to be a party pooper and I am a fan of Taylor, but let’s pump the breaks a bit. ULM is considered one of the worst programs in the FBS, the Bulldogs could have won handedly with their backups. Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey hasn’t been given the same kind of hype, but he is one of the biggest up and comers in college football this year. Mississippi State was looked at as one of the cellar dwellers of the SEC this year, one walkover win doesn’t exactly change that. Playing at home, if Minnesota can take advantage of what should be an up and down Bulldogs defense by leaning on star running back Darius Taylor they should be able to grind out a win in front of the Gophers faithful.

Army -3.5 vs South Florida +100

Brian Hartline’s debut as head coach at USF almost ended in disaster last week. The Bulls only lead 6-0 going into the fourth quarter over a terrible Florida International team, and escaped with a 19-9 win in very unconvincing fashion. Don’t expect Army to make the same mistakes FIU made that lead to the losing the turnover battle 3-0. Army quarterback Cale Hellums only had 6 turnover worthy plays last year, and has proven he can run the patented triple-option to perfection (Army ran for 569 yards in Week 1, 4th most in program history). I fully expect Army to do what it does best, run the ball down the defenses throat, control the clock and make enough defensive stops that they can threaten to run away with the game.
