Hello friends welcome back to the Money Back Guarantee after a disappointing week 1 for my picks. But we’re going to throw it out and forgot about it. The record overall was 1-3 bringing us to 3-4 on the season for -1.26 units. The best bet fell to 1-1 -0.09 units because Shane Beamer was chasing a newspaper score late in the game (thanks a lot Shane).

Quick hat tip to Tyler on a 3-0 week as he takes an early 2 game lead in the contest. Lot of time on the clock it must be said.

Week 2 is always an interesting week to pick because there are usually land mines all over the board. After a long off season of prognosticating there are usually some overreactions. Hopefully we can take advantage of that this week.

The passing of Labor Day has inspired me to write about a topic near and dear to my heart living in Monmouth County. That would be local summer. I’m sure there’s a fair few of you reading this from North Jersey or possibly New York and I truly mean this as no disrespect. Your tourism dollars are critical to good local business in the area and the Jersey shore economy as a whole. But now is a magical time of year to be a local in Monmouth county.

Pretty good

We get about 3-4 weeks of summer weather minus the summer traffic. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Now on to the business.

Oregon @ Oklahoma State +23.5 O/U 57.5

Absolutely disastrous start for the Pokes in the Eric Morris era. Putting up 10 against Tulsa will surely leave a bad taste in the mouth. Oregon had a hard fought battle against Boise at home in Autzen that leaves me questioning the Ducks on both sides of the line of scrimmage. For the first time this season I’m giving out an over. Give me over 57.5 -110. I’m banking on Okie State to not turn it over 4 times again and I think Oregon moves the ball freely on their defense.

California @ Syracuse -3.5 O/U 56.5

Like I said early in the blog this line feels like a bit of overcorrection to me. Cal probably shouldn’t have been favored against UCLA last week. That was a 24-24 game that the bruins busted open in the 4th. Cal was even favored on early look ahead lines. Give me Cal +3.5 -110. I hate taking the cross country travel team but I’ll take the risk here.

What can you do for me Mr. Russell

Alabama @ Kentucky +10.5 O/U 49.5

Hand up I firmly overthought one of the picks last week. I was all over Alabama and when I was writing the piece I omitted them for Indiana at the last second. A gross mistake on my part. The Tide took it to East Carolina pretty good at home. Will Stein had Kenny Minchey cooking in his first game. Let’s go for another over here. We’ll play over 49.5 -110. I think Keelon Russell can light it up in Lexington on Saturday. I also want to see more from the Tide defense. Kentucky presents a much bigger challenge than ECU did last week.

Best Bet

Georgia Southern @ Clemson -20.5 O/U 55.5

Here’s where I’m going to be a little bit of a hypocrite. I’m firmly buying that Clemson offense being real bad. Christopher Vizzina is just not going to cut it. I see Clemson relying much more on the ground game here. Look for Dabo to try and ground and pound and grind out a win in the home opener. We’ll play under 55.5 -110.
