Year To Date: 14-13 (-0.88 units)

Somehow, we blinked and it’s already Week 10 of the season. It’s truly disgusting to think about how we’re already closing in on the year, but luckily for us we still have some incredible football ahead of us. This weeks slate could possibly be the best of the entire season, we have elite matchups across the board. I didn’t have a great week gambling last Saturday, but with so many great games coming up I’m determined to get back on track.

Oklahoma State -3.5 vs Kansas State -108

Caleb Hawkins has been the bellcow in the Cowboys backfield that makes the offense hum

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. That’s what I’ll do this week as I go right back to the well after picking Oklahoma State last week to cover, only for them to lose outright as a big favorite. The Cowboys have some pretty obvious flaws. For as good as the offensive unit is, the defense continues to hold them back. The secondary has been a mess, currently ranking 105th in the nation, allowing 236.8 yards per game through the air. The Cowboys are hoping to get a bit of a reprieve this week as Kansas State is going to be forced to play their third string quarterback Blake Barnett due to injuries to Avery Johnson and Dillon Duff. While Barnett did look strong in his appearance against Colorado last week, Oklahoma State should be able to do enough defensively to get a few stops and allow their offense to get ahead and stay ahead.

West Virginia vs Texas Tech Over 62.5 -125

Thomas Castellanos took over at quarterback for the Red Raiders, can he keep up the high scoring in Lubbock?

The only thing on the docket for this game is points, points, and even more points. Texas Tech was one of the favorites to make a deep playoff run going into the season, and while they haven’t lived up to those lofty expectations, they are rounding into form. Last week the Red Raiders made a big change, benching starting quarterback Will Hammond in favor of transfer Thomas Castellanos. The senior rewarded those decision makers with a huge win against Arizona, throwing for two touchdowns, and rushing for 117 yards and chipping in a rush touchdown to go along with it. If the Red Raiders give the keys to the offense fully to Castellanos, he’s got a great matchup to gain confidence after his first start. West Virginia’s defense is porous to put it nicely. Currently ranked second to last in the entire country, the Mountaineers are giving up 483.9 yards per game, good for 7.03 yards allowed per play. The secondary is a joke, and the rushing defense should have a long day going up against Castellanos’ legs combined with the three-headed monster in the Red Raiders backfield of J’Kory Williams, Cameron Dickey, and Quinten Joyner.

The hope for West Virginia is to keep up with the Red Raiders with their explosive ground game. Texas Tech’s defense hasn’t been as stout as years past, but they do rank 13th in the country, allowing only 94.9 rush yards per game. Quarterback Michael Hawkins and running back Cam Cook are responsible for a majority of the Mountaineers offense this year, but they will have their work cut out for them. This number is sizable, but I don’t see Texas Tech having any issues scoring the ball. The Mountaineers have enough to keep it close enough, especially with the break neck pace we anticipate seeing.

Iowa +3vs Northwestern -115

With Hank Brown back under center, expect him to feed star freshman wide receiver Tony Diaz

I’m taking this one strictly off vibes. Iowa has always been known for their strong defense, but this year they have flexed their offensive muscles in ways we haven’t seen in years. Hank Brown looks to be back to full health after missing two games, and even with star running back Kamari Moulton out for the season, the Hawkeyes have been able to mix and match strong passing and running units to put up big numbers. Last week was a very impressive get right game for them, blowing out a very game Wisconsin team 30-0. I can see them carrying momentum into this week against a Northwestern team that has exceeded expectations, but could sputter down the stretch. Looking at the Northwestern schedule to this point, are we sure they are all that good? They have played a very underwhelming slate of games so far, and when going up against an even average offense last week against a VERY beat up Oregon squad, they faltered late in the game. Aiden Chiles has impressed this year, running the Chip Kelly offense exactly how it needs to be ran, and the defense has looked good for the most part. I’m definitely not counting out the Wildcats here, I just see a lot of the momentum in the favor of the Hawkeyes in this matchup. Expect a close, hard hitting game and Iowa keeping it at least within three points. It could be worth throwing a little bit of coin on Iowa moneyline at +120 as well, as I think they can absolutely win this game outright.

“A friend of mine who used to be my boss at ESPN once was asked why sports had exploded the way it had. He said, “Because you can’t go to Blockbuster and rent tonight’s game.” Every night is different in sports. Every day there are different heroes and villains and conversations after the game.“
