Year To Date: 9-6 (+1.8 units)

What a wonderful day last Saturday was for those of you that tailed my picks. An undefeated 3-0 day has me feeling good heading into Week 6, and while the studying the board has given me some trouble the last few days, I think I’ve found some winners for you loyal readers. Let’s get to work.

Indiana vs Nebraska Over 47.5 -115

Josh Hoover has a big test ahead of him this week against the Cornhuskers

Last years National Champion Indiana Hoosiers are off to another undefeated start to their season. It hasn’t been as dominant as last year, but Head Coach Curt Cignetti has his team playing hard nosed, winning football. There were a lot of questions coming into this year as the Hoosiers transitioned to a new starting quarterback in TCU transfer Josh Hoover, but so far he has put a lot of doubts to rest. Last year Hoover struggled mightily with turnovers (13 interceptions), but the senior has reigned it in and isn’t forcing the issue as much in his final collegiate season (0 interceptions in 5 games). One of the main reasons for Hoover being able to control the turnovers is his ability to lean on the run game. The Hoosiers have the tandem of Lee Beebe Jr. and Turbo Richard that have combined for 1107 yards on the ground and 9 touchdowns so far. Nebraska has struggled defending the run against a very weak schedule, the Hoosiers should have no issue breaking off long rushes that puts them in great areas of the field.

The Cornhuskers offense has sneakily been one of the more high powered offenses in the country so far this season, not having scored less than 31 points in any game. Anthony Colandrea has been electric since taking over as the signal caller following his transfer from UNLV. He has a rocket arm that will be sure to test the Indiana secondary, and has the legs to keep the defense honest. I expect Indiana to do most of the heavy lifting to get this over to the window, but Nebraska absolutely has the capability to put up points and keep this close.

Virginia Tech -9.5 vs Cal -112

Jeffrey Overton Jr. looks to run wild on the Golden Bears

The Hokies had their hearts ripped out of their chests last Friday, losing at the last second by missing a walk off field goal by what looked like a single hair. Had they won, I fully believe they would have been a Top 25 ranked team in the country. James Franklin and his team is sure to be pissed off and looking to make a statement this week on the west coast. Cal has struggled mightily under new head coach Tosh Lupoi, and the team has put star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele under constant pressure. JKS is a total star, he has the capability to drag his team over any finish line with his talent, but after weeks of getting put in the dirt the wheels could be falling off very shortly. I’m not even go into any of the stats that say this game could be a laugher, I’m going straight off of storyline and vibe around each team. Virginia Tech is already the better team and now they’re angry. Expect them to put up a big number this week.

Oregon State Team Total Over 34.5 vs San Diego State -105

Braden Atkinson continues to light the world on fire as the new Beavers starting QB

Ladies and gentlemen, I may be all in on the Oregon State Beavers. The boys up in Corvallis, Oregon are crushing defenses and laughing while they do it. Quarterback Braden Atkinson has been a revelation since transferring from Mercer. The best part? He’s only a sophomore, so the hope is he stays around for another few years alongside true freshman star receiver Jesse Legree. Atkinson leads the country with 1,848 passing yards and is second in the country in touchdown passes (16). San Diego State has been ravaged by not only injury, but also a severe outbreak of mumps. Yes, you read that correctly, mumps in the year 2026. As of today, there are 20 players on the roaster that are listed as either questionable or doubtful due to injury and illness. The Aztecs are depleted, the Beavers are flying high, let’s put up some points.

“A friend of mine who used to be my boss at ESPN once was asked why sports had exploded the way it had. He said, “Because you can’t go to Blockbuster and rent tonight’s game.” Every night is different in sports. Every day there are different heroes and villains and conversations after the game.“
