Hello friends, welcome to week 6. Something about saying week 6 is so jarring, you blinked and suddenly almost half the season has passed us by.
Sadly Nick and I just couldn’t make it work for the pod this week. So I want to highlight a few things that stood out to me. Don’t worry though, Nick has an article up to cover the week’s action.
On our Fighting Irish, there were a couple concerns for me defensively. KVA and Leonard Moore both get banged up is the most significant concern. I thought Bobby Petrino coached circles around Chris Ash at times. 3 long touchdown drives 74 yards, 97 yards, and 75 yards. That’s worrying to me. On the bright side Jonaz Walton was outstanding. Walton got a lion share of the work Saturday and seized the opportunity for 120 yards. I still think the backfield is working itself out but Walton has made himself into a potential RB1 candidate. Oh and that CJ Carr fella is pretty good.
Let me give you an except from my justification for betting Florida last week?
This game makes every fiber of my being uncomfortable. Florida off their biggest home win in years rolling into Columbia, Missouri. The Gators haven’t really faced adversity yet. How will Aaron Philo respond to a slow start? Can the Gators defense rise to the task? All of it makes me nervous.
Everything that made me nervous about the Gators beforehand reared its ugly head in an absolute beatdown at the hands of Mizzou. Jaden Baugh got a little banged up and Aaron Philo simply couldn’t carry the load. Worrying signs for the Gators.
Finally a note on the Texas Tech Red Raiders who are on fraud watch for me. They beat Colorado 29-7 and if just saw the score you would so ahh okay business as usual for tech. Nope, they were outgained by the Buffs. 4 Colorado turnovers including a pick six massively masked what a poor effort this was from Tech. Someone in the Big 12 is going to pick off the Red Raiders.
Last week wasn’t the best for me personally on the blog. I ignored red flags with Florida and Mississippi State. Overall we went 1-3 -2.09 units. Best bet was pitiful we’re now 3-3 -0.26. Overall on the season the record is now 13-10 +1.71 units. Onto the picks.

North Carolina at Pitt -4 O/U 47.5
Pitt went into Blacksburg last week and won a game with a little controversy and terrible news. Starting quarterback Mason Heinstchel tore his ACL he’s done for the season. I think North Carolina is live to win this game on Saturday. Tar Heels +4 -110.

Texas at Oklahoma (N) +8.5 O/U 39.5
The Red River Shootout. Need I say more? I will of course. One of the games I look forward to most on the college football calendar since I was a kid. This game has lost a little luster to some thanks to the “coaching job” done by Brent Venables at OU. 39.5 as the total is hard to imagine. When I first started gambling I don’t think this total ever sunk lower than 60. OU’s offense is putrid and Texas’ offense has been inconsistent but by god I want points. Over 39.5 -110.

LSU @ Kentucky +8.5 O/U 54.5
Will Stein and Kentucky have been a nice feel good story early in this college football season. Coming off a crazy 17 point comeback win at South Carolina you might be thinking about riding that momentum and taking Kentucky. I’m here to tell you I believe that to be a mistake. I’ve been skeptical of LSU at points this season but they pounded A&M at home and I think they are really rounding into form. We’ll lay the points with LSU. LSU -8.5 -112.
Best Bet

UCLA @ Oregon -11.5 O/U 58.5
Another feel good story early in this college football season Bob Chesney leads a resurgent UCLA squad into the Autzen Zoo. The undefeated Bruins are feeling themselves but they roll into face a desperate Oregon squad. Whether it’s Dante Moore or Dylan Raiola I predict points points points. Over 58.5 -105.
