Well that was completely unacceptable. There is no need to mince words and beat around the bush about how the Yankees performed this weekend in Boston. They had recovered from losing 2 of 3 to the Sox last weekend by sweeping Kansas City, but they gave it back and then some in these three games. The lineup no showed and the fundamentals were totally non-existent. Are these signs for another trade marked Aaron Boone era “June swoon?” Maybe, but more on that later, instead right now let’s look at the bad, because there was a lot of it.
The Bad

The Kids Are Not Alright: The poster child for this mess of a weekend, rightly or wrongly, is Jasson Dominguez. “The Martian” was ineffective offensively and compounded that by making a big time mental mistake on the bases, as he was picked off to end a rally Saturday night. He’s had an up and down season, where he’s been a bit better in the field than expected, been alright batting left handed and struggled mightily right handed.
I am trying to stay patient because if you’re going to play prospects, you need to hang with them, but it’s easy to start to feel like Dominguez is headed for being another Yankee bust. So many Yankee prospects over the years have turned out to be heavily flawed pro’s after mountains of hype. This team needed Dominguez to be the player he was promised to be to help this team…so far the returns are not promising.

Boone Ball: If we’re being honest, the type of baseball we saw this weekend, is just another month that has become all too familiar. The Aaron Boone era has typically featured two things, good overall weekends, with bad performances in the middle of the season. Just about every campaign since taking over in 2018 has seen June and July typically turn into the doldrums where the team sleepwalks through their slate of games. From sending Anthony Volpe in extra’s, to Dominguez boneheaded base running, to Ben Rice getting picked off Sunday. They beat themselves in these games and they have to arrest this play right here and right now. The team is 12-26 in their last 38 extra inning games, a feat that’s almost hard to pull off in the bonus runner era. But it is indicative of the lack of fundamental execution under Boone, With the subpar Angels and Orioles coming to the Bronx, they have to get their game in order and retake control in the East this week.
Highlight of the Week
El Capitan: The only good thing to happen this weekend at Fenway, enjoy everyone!
What’s Next

The upcoming seven game home-stand against the struggling Angels and Orioles, is the perfect time to get things under control. The Yankees already beat up on Anaheim this year, but dropped two games to Baltimore a few weeks back, so you could say they owe them. Giancarlo Stanton is returning to the lineup as well, perfect timing as the offense is stagnating of late. The division lead is down to 3.5 games, as the Rays continue to surge, going 7-3 in their last ten games. If you’re looking for good news…the Yankees won’t be seeing nearly as much of Rafael Devers as they’re used to, as he was traded to the Giants Sunday night.
