From the Pen of Mike Sheerin;
Last week was the week we’ve been praying for. 3-1 +3.01 units for the weekend. Buys you your Sunday sauce. That’s all I’m trying to do. Enough about last week. If you’ve been reading the blogs you see I like to add some personal touches to it. This week I want to tell a little story, I haven’t quite thought of a good name for it yet but I’ll come up with something. This is a spooky story so lock your doors, close the windows and turn on a nightlight. Let me tell you the tale of my worst beat ever.
The night before Halloween 2021 a bright eyed 24 year old Mike Sheerin was watching college football as one does. I had action on Florida State @ Clemson. This was Mike Norvell’s second season, they got off to a miserable 0-4 star and then recovered to 3-4. Jordan Travis was still early in his college career. Also at this point we hadn’t figured out DJ Uiagalelei was bad. It was a 9.5 point spread and I had Florida State. At no point of this game was Clemson covering I want to make this abundantly clear. Clemson scored a touchdown with 2:53 left in the 4th quarter to make it a 24-20 game. FSU gets the ball then proceeds to burn a 1:31 off the clock leading to a Florida State punt. 1:26 left in the game and Clemson has a chance to ice it and secure the win for me… and themselves. 3 plays 4 yards then a punt. But in my head it’s fine, the Seminoles are going to throw a few quick hitters to try and give Jordan Travis an opportunity to try and throw up a prayer and I’ll be fine. Florida State hits one pass play. Then with 4 seconds left well I’ll just let the video speak for itself.
That was it not extra point Clemson beats Florida State 30-20 and I don’t cover 9.5. You know it’s funny I can remember a handful of good picks I’ve made over the years. But I still remember the spot I was sitting in, what I was doing where I was when this bad beat happened.
On this season we know sit at 10-12 -0.65 units. Like I said we’re heating up as we get into the heart of the schedule. Let’s keep it rolling, here are the picks.

SMU @ Louisville -6.5 o/u 56.5
Louisville is coming off a tough loss in South Bend where they looked super competitive. They have some very impressive playmakers on the outside and a solid running game. After the first two weeks of the season most people including myself completely wrote off SMU. Preston Stone didn’t look right, and what’s up with him splitting snaps with Kevin Jennings? Now SMU comes in on the heels of back to back wins over rival TCU and lowly Florida State looks like a different team. The Mustangs defense forces a bunch of turnovers and I expect that to continue on Saturday. Give me SMU +6.5. Wait a minute, do you hear that? What’s that sound?

It’s a double! Give me that over 56.5.

Pittsburgh @ North Carolina +2.5 o/u 64.5
Very quietly the Pitt Panthers are 4-0 and have themselves a good quarterback. Alabama transfer Eli Holstein has been putting up numbers for Pitt. But this isn’t a vintage Pat Narduzzi defense in my opinion. North Carolina and stud running back Omarion Hampton might have some success against the Pitt defense. I cannot believe I’m saying this in a game that involves Pat Narduzzi but give me over 64.5.

Ole Miss @ South Carolina +8.5 o/u 54.5
It was an embarrassing defeat for Ole Miss at home last weekend. After rolling through a bunch of cupcakes they lost to a stingy Kentucky team. South Carolina coming off a bye should be getting LaNorris Sellers back and running back Rocket Sanders is listed as probable. If there’s one thing Kentucky may have exposed it’s that Ole Miss’ o-line could be a weakness. Maybe I’m picking with my heart but I truly believe the might Soutb Carolina Gamecocks cover this spread. Cocks +8.5, book it.
