Year To Date: 22-19-1 (+0.7 units)
I’m back after a week off celebrating the one and only creator of the Broadway Breakdown, Nick Flaherty at his bachelor party. After a surprisingly successful weekend gambling in Vegas, I have a lot more money in my pocket to play with than I thought I would. Couple that with back to back incredible weeks for the blog (6-1-1 in Week 10), and I want to go all out and make all of you just as much money.
Jeremiyah Love 2+ TD’s vs Pitt +150

After Pat Narduzzi’s comments early this week about not caring much about a loss to Notre Dame, I have no choice but to fade the Pitt Panthers. What better way to do that then to hammer Notre Dame’s best player, and Heisman contender, Jeremiyah Love? A threat out of the backfield and as a receiver, Love has had a spectacular season that just seems to be getting going. With an outside shot of winning the Heisman, Head Coach Marcus Freeman seems to be giving Love all the work he can handle which has been resulting in monster numbers. The Fighting Irish can take advantage of an average Pitt defense on the way to putting up a big number on the scoreboard, and if that happens it’s more likely than not that Love finds himself in the end zone more than once.
South Florida -9.5 vs Navy -126

The Midshipmen’s season has fallen off in the big way after back to back big losses. Now there are questions surrounding starting quarterback Blake Horvath’s health after missing last weeks game against Notre Dame. Without Horvath, Navy hasn’t been able to get much going on offense, even more than a normal service academy struggles to move the ball. South Florida started the season white hot but have tapered off a bit as the season has gone on. They still find themselves in the middle of the race for the American Conference title and a shot at making the College Football Playoff, but a loss here all but kills any momentum they have. Head Coach Alex Golesh will have his team ready to play, but just to be safe I’m taking an alternate line to keep this one within a football number.
West Virginia +11.5 vs Arizona State -115

This one is more about me fading an Arizona State team missing their best players rather than me backing the Mountaineers. Starting quarterback Sam Leavitt is out for the season with a foot injury, and stud wide receiver Jordyn Tyson remains out with a hamstring injury. I’ve seen enough play from new quarterback Jeff Sims over the years to know I want no part in betting on his team, so I’ll bet against him.
Utah -7.5 vs Baylor -110

Utah seems to be hitting their stride just at the right time as the season comes to a close. Devon Dampier is doing whatever he wants on the ground, and their defense has been lights out as of late. On the other side, Baylor is one of the more up and down teams in the country. One week they look like giant killers, and the next they look like they’ve never played football before. With Utah playing like they deserve a spot in the College Football Playoff, I believe they’ll come out firing and force Baylor into playing off their back foot, when they’re more prone to mistakes. I’d love for this number to drop below a touchdown, but Utah does have everything it takes to make this one a blowout, even against a volatile team like the Baylor Bears.
BYU -3 vs TCU -115

After a disastrous showing last week against Texas Tech, BYU finds itself in a make or break game against a very tough TCU team. Sonny Dykes’ Horned Frogs team has put themselves in a ton of situations to win a few extra games, but always seems to shoot themselves in the foot. Bear Bachmeier needs to be better leading the Cougars, and I believe another week of recovery for LJ Martin will help reestablish the run game that has made the freshman quarterback’s life much easier. This should end up being a close game, but I’ll back the Cougars to get right and stay in the Playoff picture.
LATE ADD: Oklahoma +6.5 vs Alabama -112
Alabama has trouble stopping the run, and that’s what the Sooners offense is based around. Couple that with an elite Oklahoma defense matched up against a recently shaky Crimson Tide offense and I’ll take the points.
LATE ADD: UNC +6 vs Wake Forest -110
Wake Forest is severely banged up and don’t even know who they’re playing at QB. Old man Billy B has had the Tar Heels playing better of late, let’s see if they can keep it rolling.
LATE ADD: Wyoming +3.5 vs Fresno State -112
Kurt Warner’s son is the new QB at Fresno State and has some of the worst stats in the nation since coming in after backing up most of the year. As a true sicko, I have watched some Wyoming football this year and they are surprisingly competent on both ends. Not sure why they’re underdogs but I’ll gladly take the points.
