Year To Date: 16-18 (-3.66 units)
Ladies and gentlemen, we may have cracked the code of giving out winning picks, and that is to just send out every single thing I have money on and hope for the best. Last week I went 7-3 and went UP 3.22 units, at least getting me back into competency record wise. This week may be tougher, not a ton of marquee matchups in what results in the perfect “Apple Picking Week”, where you can check box scores later and don’t have to spend the entire day in front of the TV if you don’t want to. Because I’m an absolute sicko, I will be watching all of these games, so I might as well give you all some winners.
Houston -12.5 vs West Virginia -115

I have been locked in on the Houston Cougars all season. Head Coach Willie Fritz has molded this roster into a hard nosed, punch you in the mouth team that not only stays in games where they are outgunned, but they more often than not win those games. West Virginia has proven to be a mess, they are down their best offensive player in Jaheim White after suffering a season ending knee injury earlier in the year and have tons of question marks surrounding the quarterback position. After a decent showing last week against TCU, it looks like Scotty Fox will be the man under center for the Mountaineers. If I’m the Cougars, that doesn’t strike fear into my heart. Back the Cougars in a blowout.
Vanderbilt +3 vs Texas -118

The Commodores are looking like a real threat to make the College Football Playoffs, and their next test comes in the form of an up and down Texas Longhorns team. It looks like Arch Manning will be able to play after suffering a concussion last week, how effective he will be is an entirely different question. I know better than to bet against Diego Pavia, especially when he is given points, so I’ll take Vanderbilt as the underdog.
New Mexico +4.5 vs UNLV -112

Coming into the season I was high on the UNLV Rebels under new head coach Dan Mullen. I am man enough to admit that even with a stellar 6-1 record, these Rebels are frauds. They are playing way too many close games against inferior opponents, and are consistently bailed out against a turnover margin that I believe will swing in the favor of their opponents as the season rolls on. Lobos Head Coach Jason Eck can cement himself as one of the marquee names in this season’s coaching carousel with another upset win, and his no fear attitude when calling plays should be attractive to many premiere schools looking for a new voice. I can totally see the Lobos pulling off the outright upset, but I’ll play it safe and take them with the points, especially with a number over a field goal.
Liberty -3 vs Delaware -115

Conference USA has been a complete mess this season, but one of the biggest positives has been the Delaware Blue Hens in their first season of FBS football. Led by quarterback Nick Minicucci, Delaware relies on their pass game. Going up against the Liberty Flames, I just don’t see that being a valid game plan to come away with the win. A secondary led by Amarian Williams won’t allow Minicucci clean routes as Liberty ranks 20th in the nation in coverage. Expect Liberty to shut down the Blue Hens offense and put up enough points to cover the spread.
Mississippi State +4.5 vs Arkansas -110

Mississippi State is one week removed from a disaster loss against a Texas team that they consistently outplayed all game. Even with four consecutive losses, coach Jeff Lebby has the Bulldogs playing with moxie. Blake Shapen and the rest of the Mississippi State offense has proven that they can move up and down the field, and against an Arkansas defense that is downright horrendous, I don’t think they should have an issue keeping pace with a high powered Razorback offense. If the Bulldogs can keep Taylen Green in check for a few drives this game should be a true coin toss. Give me the points here.
Hawaii vs San Jose State Over 57.5 -112

In the last game of the night, I would love to see some fireworks. Both Micah Alejado (Hawaii) and Walker Eget (San Jose State) have put up some really impressive numbers for their squads. With suspect defenses on both sides, these two shouldn’t be afraid to let it fly early and often. I don’t have many stats to back this one up, I just love rooting for points late night. I miss watching Pac-12 after dark, but if I can’t have that at least there’s the Mountain West.
Virginia -4.5 vs Cal -112

Oddly enough, one of the teams I have watched the most this season are the Cal Golden Bears. Justin Wilcox has exceeded all expectations for this season in big part to their stud freshman quarterback Jeron Keawe-Sagapolutele. While the team started the season red hot, they. haven’t been able to find much consistency recently in big part to having an absolutely terrible offensive line that is forcing their signal caller into rushing plays and making mistakes. The Virginia defense has proven to be a top tier unit in the ACC and has put them in a position to actually make a run towards a conference championship game if they run the table. Head Coach Tony Elliott should have his team ready to play even with the long travel to the west coast as the Cavaliers have much higher aspirations and can’t afford to trip up.
Texas Tech vs Kansas State Over 51.5 -112

The Red Raiders looked like they saw red last week against Oklahoma State after dropping a game the week previous against Arizona State. With quarterback Behren Morton looking ready to return from a leg injury that has nagged him over the last few weeks, he wants to get off to a fast start after his group has looked uneven in the last few weeks. On the other side, Kansas State is finally rounding into form after a terrible start to the season, and while I still don’t trust quarterback Avery Johnson, he can put up some gaudy numbers especially when his back is up against the wall. Texas Tech shouldn’t have any issues putting up points in a hurry, and if Kansas State is forced to play from behind I could see this game as a race to 30 points.
