Year To Date: 3-3 (-0.4 units)

We’re back after a very weird week of gambling that consisted of a MIRACLE cover against an independent UConn team, an over that would have hit if we took it at 90.5, and a disappointing loss to a MAC school. It was a battle this past week, and while some wins aren’t the prettiest, sometimes you just need to see the ball go through the hoop. We only look forward on this blog, never backwards. Onto Week 3.

Arkansas vs Ole Miss Over 61.5 -115

Taylen Green will look to keep pace with a fast Ole Miss offensive unit

I have very few noticeable flaws as a gambler in my humble opinion, but the biggest one is that when I see a point total involving Arkansas and another SEC team, more times than not I will be betting on the over. It doesn’t matter what the rosters are looking like, who’s calling plays or what state they’re even playing in, I will be sat to watch the Hogs sling the pigskin. Fortunately for us, the Razorbacks have come out of the gates hot this year, albeit to Alabama A&M and Arkansas State. Taylen Green leads the country with 10 passing touchdowns and is always a threat to break containment and scamper for yards. On the other side, new starting quarterbacks for the Rebels Austin Simmons hasn’t lit the world on fire and is also battling a minor ankle injury but will play on Saturday. I do think this is the perfect spot for Simmons to get going though, Arkansas hasn’t played anyone to the level of the Rebels and any team coached by Sam Pittman will eventually fall flat. Even if Simmons has some trouble with the Razorbacks defense, the addition of transfer running back Kewan Lacy will be a tremendous help in keeping the defense honest. Expect some fireworks out of two teams that love to go fast and are looking to throw some haymakers.

Miami -16.5 vs USF -130

Alex Golesh and Byrum Brown have taken the football world by storm, can they keep it up?

Listen, I don’t want to rain on the USF Bulls party, but it’s time to pack it up and go back to reality. What they’ve done to start the season under Head Coach Alex Golesh is incredibly impressive, they have the best resumé in all of college football, I just don’t see that continuing past this week. Playing back to back top 25 teams to start the season is an unenviable task, but being rewarded with playing Miami after those two wins? That’s too high of a mountain to climb. Add in the fact that Miami is coming off of an early season bye and have had time to scheme up exactly what they want to do in this matchup makes it an even tougher task. Even if USF does lose this game, they’re still in the drivers seat to make the College Football Playoff as the Group of 5 representative, so this loss isn’t back breaking for their season. I expect a let down for all the fans who have jumped on the Bulls bandwagon. Like I said, I don’t want to rain on their parade, but sometimes a Hurricane comes through to put a stop to the fun.

Duke Moneyline vs Tulane +100

Darian Mensah returns to Tulane looking for revenge

One of the most sought after quarterbacks in the transfer portal returns to his former program as Darian Mensah leads the Duke Blue Devils to his former home at Tulane. Last week was ugly for Duke, they lost the turnover battle to Illinois by an alarming 5-0 score. And for as insane as that stat is, Duke really didn’t play all that bad and stuck with a Top 25 rated team into the second half. To put it plainly, Mensah needs to be way better, especially when going head to head with a dynamic quarterback like Jake Retzlaf who replaced him at Tulane. Yulman Stadium is going to be hostile come Saturday, but Mensah is bringing with him a ton of offensive firepower highlighted by Harvard transfer Cooper Bartake that I’m not sure the Green Wave can fully contain. Tulane has averaged almost 100 more rushing yards (255) per game than passing yards (158), and if they plan on once again being run heavy, they may be in for a long day at the office because Duke prides themselves on stopping the run. Jake Retzlaf has proven that he can will his team to a win, but this time I’ll be taking Darian Mensah as he looks to prove to Tulane exactly what they’re missing.
