Hello Friends, welcome back to the Money Back Guarantee. Week 0 aka appetizer week is in the rear view and now it’s time for the main course. The blog went 2-0 last week starting us off at +1.86 units but it took a lot of hard work. For roughly 3 quarters thanks to some good luck on turnovers the Iowa State Kansas State over looked like a sure thing. Then it was dead, then thanks to replay intervention and Matt Campbell having good sense it survived. Hawaii needed a last second field goal to beat Stanford and cover as well. It’s early in the season and there’s a lot to learn still. Before I get to the picks you know I love rambling on about things related to the shore. With Labor Day Weekend approaching I think it’s worth sharing some advice.

LDW always felt like a funeral to me. End of summer blues hit me hard. It never hit me harder than it did in 2021 the summer I rented a house in Belmar. After 10 weekends of drinking going out and all the other shenanigans Labor Day Monday hit me like an 18 wheeler. Black Monday is a sad day, you wake up early and immediately do a deep clean of the house. It’s a real glass shattering moment where you realize a few things. Number 1, holy shit we’ve been living like animals for the last 2 and a half months. Number 2, there is absolutely no chance we’re getting a security deposit back. Last but not least, those bunk beds you built in May where you absolutely stripped the bolts on are going to take forever to break down. That’s just the way it goes.

S/O the back house

As always with holiday weekends, the bars are going to be absolutely swamped. Get there an hour earlier than you anticipated. It’s the end of the summer if you established a solid rapport with a bartender give them a nice tip to end the season.

Now for the picks.

Nebraska vs Cincinnati (N) +6.5 O/U 53.5

We’re starting off on Thursday night. I don’t think there’s been a more anticipated Nebraska season in at least 10 years. The Cornhuskers are getting some pretty big hype. While I am a bit skeptical myself I think they get off to a strong start in week 1. I can’t see Cincinnati containing the Huskers offense all game. And the spread being less than a touchdown is perfect. Give me the Huskers -6.5 -120.

Syracuse vs Tennessee (N) -13.5 O/U 50.5

Fran Brown Believer

Fast forward to Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. I said my piece last week on Tennessee in the futures blog. I don’t have a great outlook on the Vols heading into the season. The Orange had a ton of turnover this offseason as well but I just can’t see this being a blowout. Maybe I’ll be way off on my prognostication of Tennessee but I think this game stays around 7-10 points. Give me the underdog Syracuse +13.5 -105.

Alabama at Florida State +13.5 O/U 50.5

Ty Simpson is the new man in TitleTown

There was no more disappointing team in college football than Mike Norvell’s Florida State Seminoles last season. Bama somewhat disappointed themselves. 9-3 certainly hasn’t been the standard in Tuscaloosa the last 18 or so years. The Tide have a question mark at Quarterback. Ty Simpson has been in the program for a few years now and is finally getting his opportunity to start. He has an experienced offensive line protecting him. Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard at receiver. And other side of the ball the tide defense is extremely talented. I think they smash the Noles in Doak Campbell Stadium. Roll Tide Roll, Blitz Bama Blitz, Alabama -13.5 -114.

Texas at Ohio State -2.5 O/U 47.5

It’s officially Arch Manning time

Week 1 and we got a matchup between #1 and #3. Wow oh wow. Remarkably despite both teams rankings there a ton of questions surrounding both teams. Texas lost a bunch of starts on the o-line. They lost a bunch of talent at receiver as well. If the game is close late can Sark actually get the playcalling right? Most importantly is Arch all hype? On the other side Ohio State lost both its coordinators from its staff. They lost 16 picks to the NFL draft. And like Texas are trotting out a brand new quarterback. What will see from Julian Sayin in week 1? If you listened to the pod you know I’ve gone back and forth on this game 100 times. Unfortunately the juice got squeezed out of the under which is down to 47.5. When in doubt I say take the underdog. I think the continuity in the coaching staff a long with the Texas pass rush will give the Buckeyes a lot of trouble. Texas +2.5 -110 and if you’re feeling bold take a look at the money line.

New Mexico at Michigan -34.5 O/U 49.5

Underwood will be under center

Don’t overthink this one guys. Michigan has a very talented defense on paper and are starting a freshman at Quarterback. Bryce Underwood might eventually be a star but game 1 will be a big step up. Give me the under 49.5.

Best Bet

Georgia Tech at Colorado +4 O/U 52.5

Is it just me or does Haynes King already look like an offensive assistant coach?

New Segment for the blog this season I want to give a best bet every week. One pick I feel very strongly about. This week it’s Georgia Tech. Colorado lost so much talent on both sides of the ball. I’m not buying Kaidon Salter at QB. And the playmakers took a huge hit. I love this Georgia Tech team coming into the season. I love love love Georgia Tech -2.5 -120 1H and -4 -112. I see this being a double digit win for the Yellow Jackets.
