Hello friends sorry I’ve been absent for the last two weeks. No I didn’t run for the hills when things went wrong, life just gets in the way.

A quick summary of the two weeks of Mets baseball that I didn’t blog is necessary though. How can I beat sum it up? Oh I have a thought

August has been nothing short of miserable for our Metropolitans. At one point I witnessed the only Mets win in over a week (12-6 against the Giants on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Citi Field). I don’t think there’s any point in harping on it much longer than that. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. When the bats were awake the pitching stunk and vice versa. Let’s focus on the week that just past.

The Good

Bats waking up?: After being in a near comatose state for almost a month the offense is coming alive. As I’ve said before, Lindor is the straw that stirs the drink, he’s hitting over .500 the last week or so. Soto and Alonso have also snapped out of their funks. The offense was also getting big help from a certain Francisco Alvarez, more on that later. Mark Vientos also came through with a big 3 run homer in Williamsport that blew the game open. That 3rd base job is still completely up for grabs as far as I’m concerned.

The Bad

The Mets Lefty needs to get in gear

Sean Manaea Struggles: Since returning to injury we haven’t been able to get 2024 Sean Manaea back yet. His ERA is up to 4.78 and he’s struggled keeping the ball in the park. I’m not sounding the alarm but this team needs Ace Manaea back.

What the Helsley: To say Ryan Helsley has struggled is putting it gently. Bullpen arms are a strange breed. He went from having a very defined role in St. Louis and since he’s arrived in Queens it’s been anything but and that’s clearly affecting him. How about you pitch a few shutdown innings and earn the dramatic hells bells entrance.

Alvy injured… again: Francisco Alvarez was really rounding into form. Hitting to all parts of the field with power. He injured his hand again when he slid into second base late in the Sunday night game. Landing him back on the IL and potentially costing him his season. Such a shame for Alvy.

Highlight of the Week

Welcome Nolan McLean: After months of asking. After punting multiple Frankie Montas starts. David Stearns finally pulled the trigger and promoted Nolan McLean. Wow wow wow did he deliver against Seattle. 5.1 shutout innings with 8 Ks. Lord knows the pen needed a rest and McLean delivered. Now give Brandon Sproat a look, why not?

The Mets have a critical week facing off with the Nationals and Braves. The Mets have to dominate this week.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
