I’m baaaaaaack. Listen, I know my first year didn’t go exactly according to plan. We went through ups and downs together, but like any strong relationship we stick together. I threw a lot of darts in last years futures picks, throwing some money at big odds to try and cash big checks. The say that didn’t work would be an understatement. This year I’m willing to lay the juice in order to get some winners on the board. These aren’t the sexiest picks, but a winner is a winner.

Oklahoma Sooners Over 6.5 Wins -180

Is John Mateer the savior Oklahoma needs?

Head Coach Brent Venables has not lived up to expectations in his tenure at Oklahoma. Things were an unmitigated disaster last year, so on the bright side it really can’t get worse. Now I know I’m saying these things before all of the drama surrounding John Mateer and a potential gambling investigation unfolds, but I do believe he will be on the field this year. If he is, he creates one of the best backfields in the country along with Cal transfer Jadyn Ott. Venables will focus on the defense, which returns a ton of talent from last year and give the reigns of the offense to new OC Ben Arbuckle. This could not have been a better hire for the Sooners, Arbuckle and Mateer lit the world on fire at Washington State last year and things can only get better for the two now surrounded by SEC talent. THe Oklahoma schedule is a tough one, but I believe the Sooners have the talent to win swing games over the likes of Michigan, Auburn, Ole Miss and Missouri.

SMU Mustangs Over 8.5 Wins -125

Can Rhett Lashlee’s Stangs repeat last year’s success?

This might be my favorite future of the season. Kevin Jennings exploded onto the scene last year and lit up the ACC, and he could very well do so again this year. The Mustangs schedule is harder than last year’s that led to an appearance in the ACC Championship game, but with another year of experience for Jennings and the rest of the crew, they could find themselves in the thick of the conference title race and looking for another playoff spot. The Mustangs lost a big weapon to the offense, as running back Brashard Smith will be playing on Sunday’s this year, but the team has several options in the backfield that they can rotate. Expect transfers TJ Harden and Chris Johnson Jr. (feel old yet?) to get the first crack at things. Jennings will also need to take better care of the ball, and the return of RJ Maryland at tight end after a season ending injury last year will only help him succeed on underneath routes. If SMU can pass their first true test against Baylor in Week 2 I could see the Mustangs starting the year 6-0 before going on the road against Clemson. After that they’ll need to win some 50/50 games against teams like Miami and Louisville in order to hit their number.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Over 8.5 Wins -155

The Red Raiders spent big in the offseason, will it translate to the field?

Texas Tech is trying to buy their way to a spot in the College Football Playoff, and it just might work. The Red Raiders lost a ton of talent to the NFL Draft and Transfer Portal, but they did everything in their power to restock the cupboards, and boy did they. Spending around $55 million in NIL for the 2025 season, Texas Tech completely remodeled their defensive line that struggled mightily in 2024 as well as their offensive line that is possibly one of the deepest in the country now. The offense will put up numbers like they always do, but adding running back Quinten Joyner from USC to help out Quarterback Behren Morton will only be a positive. There’s a good chance Texas Tech could hit their number without even having to win any of their 50/50 matchups, but if they could snag a few wins from the likes of Utah, Arizona State, Kansas State, and BYU then they should moonwalk to at least 9 wins.

Clemson to Win the ACC +105

Dabo has the Tigers primed for a big year

A future to win the conference being only +105 is crazy to think about, but when you look at the rest of the ACC it’s kind of surprising that Clemson aren’t even bigger favorites. There’s some strong talent littered through the conference, but each team just does not have enough to overpower a Clemson team that could genuinley go undefeated going into the Playoffs. Don’t overthink this one.

Kevin Jennings to Win the Heisman +5000

Could Kevin Jennings do what even Eric Dickerson couldn’t in Dallas?

With so much uncertainty in this years college football landscape involving the starting quarterback position at elite schools, I’m taking one of the surest at the position heading into the season. The SMUMustangs go as Kevin Jennings goes, and with less talent surrounding him than last season, he will have to put the team on his back at some points. He has shown the ability to put up video game numbers as a starter, and he might have to do that even more frequently if he wants the Mustangs to head back to the College Football Playoffs. Jennings is fun to watch, he is one of my favorite players to sit back and observe on Saturday’s and this year I’ll be backing him to become a member of the college football elite.
