Last week was a peaceful week in Mets land since there was no Mets baseball for most of the week. Then, Friday night happened which means I have to change the format of the blog for one week only (hopefully).

Lowlight of the Week

What the hell was Friday?: On every level imaginable Friday nights Met game aggravated me beyond belief. First game back from the all star break in front of a packed house the Mets trotted out Sean Manaea. The fan base was thrilled to see last seasons ace make his home debut this season. He was on a pitch count which while annoying I can make peace with. What I cannot accept is the fact that the Mets decided to turn to Alex Carrillo after Manaea went 4 innings. This team has not been playing well enough to be tinkering with the pen and giving a career minor league pitcher a shot when the entire bullpen is rested.

Carlos conveniently danced around leaving Carrillo in after not only 1 home run, not 2 home runs. THREE HOME RUNS CARLOS. That was a winnable game that was hilariously mismanaged.

Carrillo Friday Night

That sums up my lowlight and bad for the week, but there was something good.

The Good

The Wright Stuff: David Wright day was wonderfully done at Citi Field. The speech, the ceremony, booing the Wilpon name during the speech. David and his family throwing the first pitch. It was all marvelous.

I’m sure I don’t have to explain why I love David Wright as a Mets fan but I’ll talk about it a bit. David Wright came up to the big club at a time when I can really remember watching the game. Mike Piazza had left the team and there wasn’t much to cheer for. Then a young David Wright emerges. As smooth a swing as you’ll see from the right side of the plate. Steady even sometimes spectacular in the field.

I was one of those young fans with number 5 on my back. And I will always appreciate the effort David gave.

A stroll down memory lane

It was great to watch the countless highlights David gave us over the years. Like the catch in San Diego:

Clutch hits like this one of Mariano Rivera:

Even at the end of his career when Wright came back and mashed a bomb in Philly:

Last but not least his performance in game 3 of the 2015 World Series. While it wasn’t an official sign off it was a great performance in the twilight of the Captain’s career.

Funny enough I look forward to trying to explain to my children how the Wilpon Family ruined a majority of David’s prime by surrounding him with the likes of John Mayberry Jr, Jason Bay and so many others. Or the fact that the Wilpons built and designed the most cavernous pitchers park these eyes have ever seen.

Does the name Jason Bay mean anything to you?

The Mets have to right the ship they have a 3 game series against the Angels (they won game 1 and 2), then they head to the west coast for a long road trip. Please keep winning games.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
