Welcome to the rock bottom (god willing) edition of the Flushing Files. The Mets fought back to split a series at home against the Braves and then proceeded to set all of our hopes and potential optimism on fire in Pittsburgh being swept by the mighty 35-50 Pittsburgh Pirates with a combined score of 30-4. I can’t even bring myself to write about the month of June Juan Soto is having. No, there’s no good this week let’s talk about this.
The Bad
Everything Sucks: There is no sugarcoating it, there’s no spin, it’s all bad. As I write this I’m sitting on a New Jersey transit train combing through box scores and the news to make sure I don’t miss anything. If I had the musical talent to do so I’d write a song to the tune of We Didn’t Start the Fire to sum up this Mets June swoon. First, let’s catch up on the injury situation. Megill, Senga are both on the IL. Sean Manaea who was close to a return got temporarily shut down because of a loose body in his elbow. Griffin Canning sadly tore his Achilles on Thursday night. I expressed some frustrations with Canning this season until, oh my god wait till you see what came in to replace him. But I can’t just complain about Paul Blackburn and Frankie Montas.

David Peterson needs to find it right now. Back to back starts getting shelled when this team needs you to rise up is unacceptable.

Then you go to the bullpen. Huascar Brazoban morphed back into a pumpkin. Right now he’s throwing batting practice to opposing teams. Reed Garrett has had his struggles this month. That’s two critical pieces in the Mets pen. They can’t withstand these guys not being good.
The offense is struggling with a lot of the issues I’ve been mentioning all season. Can’t hit with runners in scoring position, bottom half of the order is largely lifeless. Since the demotion of Francisco Alvarez, Luis Torrens has struggled mightily at the plate. Mark Vientos has 1 hit since his return. Tyrone Taylor has struggled. But the guy we have to highlight sadly is Francisco Lindor.
Francisco Lindor’s batting average has plummeted to around .258 he’s getting on base at a .327 clip. That’s just not enough. Soto has been other worldly. Nimmo and Pete have been hitting. This team goes as its captain goes. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
The Mets have a day off today before a 6 game home stand against the Brewers and the Yanks.
