Hello friends. I’ve been absolutely dreading writing this blog. But if you can’t handle the lows you can’t celebrate the highs so here goes nothing.

I’m not sure if you heard but the Mets have been struggling. The Mets were swept in Atlanta (surprise surprise) and then lost 2 out of 3 to Philly to fall 1 game behind in the NL East.

The Good

Juan Soto brilliance: Juan Soto has been everything and more in the last 20-25 games. I got the privilege of watching him light up the Philadelphia Phillies, more on that later.

I do have to say life was more fun when the Mets were winning games regularly and Soto was struggling. Now he’s been nothing short of brilliant and the Mets can’t buy a win.

The Bad

It’s so bad right now it doesn’t feel like I can do it justice. With that said I will try. I think the Mets problems can be chalked up to a couple different things.

The Bottom of the Lineup Falters: Look at those numbers from the past week. YUCK. Mendoza seems to be insisting with Jared Young at DH for some bizarre reason. Catchers spot has been completely bereft of production. Brett Baty after a decent May has completely regressed. Ronny Mauricio looks in over his head. And I think that about sums it up. Can’t just depend on the 1-4 batters to carry the entire load.

Big picture the hitting with runners in scoring position is a very real issue. I can’t wrap my head around how much this team struggles to bring runners in. That’s the most frustrating thing about these games the last week to week and a half. There have been a lot of opportunities to score runs and they just haven’t. .244 with runners in scoring position just isn’t going to cut it. Ultimately I think hitting coach Eric Chavez should be canned but no change has come… yet.

The Pitching: The first word is woof. The bullpen flat out got shelled last week. 4-1 game in Atlanta Reed Garrett comes in and gets pounded. Brazoban got beat up on. The starters didn’t fare much better Paul Blackburn hasn’t exactly hit the ground running, Clay Holmes got knocked around in Atlanta. Even David Peterson had a terrible outing in Philadelphia.

Highlight of the Week

Witnessing the Lone Mets Win of the Week: I sent a tweet last week when the Mets were mired in the losing streak .

And I believed it I thought the Mets would come to life off the heels of a huge win. That hasn’t come to fruition yet but it’s always good to see the good guys win. More importantly I got to watch with my mother and two of my best friends. Good reminder that somethings are bigger than sports.

I don’t wear Mets stuff in person I think it’s bad luck

The Mets play 4 huge games against Atlanta at Citi Field (of which they’ve dropped one) and then go on the road to Pittsburgh for 3 games.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
