Well, last week was fun until the weekend hit. The Mets swept the Nationals at home then in turn were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in an ugly series. More on that later, first let’s talk about the good.
The Good
Nimmo Finding his Swing: Brandon Nimmo came through last week in a big way. 3 home runs and a .375 batting average. One of the few bright spots over the last 7 days.
The Bad
Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill go down: News broke today that Tylor Megill will go the IL with an elbow sprain. A few days prior Kodai Senga pulled a hammy when Pete Alonso nearly airmailed a gimme throw to Senga who was attempting to cover first base. Now the Mets are in a jam, they’ll need a spot starter on Friday night in Philadelphia. Reinforcements are on the way in the form of Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas (please do not check his rehab stats).
The Weekend Series: It was all bad, okay? The defense was putrid. The pitching was horrific. Even Mendoza made a big mistake. Pulling Holmes early to try and get Blackburn stretched out ended up costing the Mets on Friday night. The Rays played small ball and the Mets shot themselves in the foot time and time again. With that said it’s 3 games out of 162 and if the Mets respond by playing well in Atlanta and Philadelphia it’ll all be forgotten.
Highlight of the Week
David Peterson… need I say more?: David Peterson’s magical season rolled on last week. He threw a complete game shutout on Wednesday night against Washington. He struck out 6 and walked none. I’m running out of words to describe how great this guys been. He now sits at 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA and 71 strikeouts.
The Mets head on the road to face the Braves and Phillies in two huge mid season series. Keep the Braves down, and stretch the lead over Philly please and thank you.
