It was a very good week for the Mets. Back to back series wins have the fanbase in a good mood. Let’s talk about all things Mets.

The Good

Baty Train!

Competition brewing at 3rd Base?: Don’t look now but Brett Baty has hit 3 home runs in his last 4 games. This includes a 2 home run 5 RBI effort in Saturday’s loss to the Cubbies. Mark Vientos responded by homering Sunday. Suddenly it’s a battle to get in the lineup with McNeil healthy and Luisangel Acuña’s scrappy play. The good news is we’re still only a quarter into this marathon and this will naturally sort itself out. My 2 cents, let Baty get some more reps at 3rd and Vientos can get plenty of reps at DH. Leaving Acuna and McNeil to sort out 2nd Base.

Home Sweet Home: The Mets are off to a fantastic start at Citi Field. They currently sit at 15-4 their best start at home since ‘86. The crowds have been fantastic all season, long may it continue.

Soto in the groove: This past week Juan Soto really found the home run swing. 3 home runs, which included a 2 bomb night in Arizona. Funny story, Friday night me and my girlfriend Sam took my mother to Pete and Elda’s in Neptune City, NJ. Great spot if you appreciate bar pie. By chance I ran into my cohost/head honcho of the blog Nick Flaherty and his fiancée Bri. We both got to watch Juan Soto go deep Friday night. I’m sure Nick enjoyed it as much as I did.

The Bad

Do the Mets have a jersey problem?: I want to make my stance abundantly clear here. The city connect jerseys or whatever you call them stink in my opinion. The grey and purple is awful. I also want to highlight these alternate road jerseys because I think they stink too.

I think I get what they are going for with the no buttons, maybe a call back to the 86 jerseys. But I don’t like the script, and I just find these flat out boring.

Highlight of the Week

The series winner

Taking 2 out of 3 from the Cubbies: It’s early in the season but that was a measuring stick series. The northsiders have been off to a very good start thus far. In spite of all the injuries the Mets pass this test with flying colors.

The Mets host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a 3 game set at home, a series they took the opener of in walkoff fashion last night, before heading uptown to face that team from the Bronx.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
