It happened again. Yogi Berra would tell you that what our title means here. After spending two days reveling in the joy of a game one win, the Knicks put together another comeback from down 20 to win game two 91-90, taking a 2-0 series lead home to MSG. It seemed almost impossible that Lightning could strike twice, but the Knicks made it happen by forcing the issue. The Celtics have been building a house of bricks with all their missed threes, which opened the door for the Orange and blue to storm back…just like game 1.
This was another gritty team effort, in a game that was covered in grime. Neither side played their best offensive game but the Celtics built a solid lead until they start insisting on taking more threes. That insistence led to a dominating late run by the Knicks keyed by a couple of guys. Tonight it wasn’t about OG Anunoby, instead it was the “Nova trio” and the KAT! Jalen Brunson actually had a quiet night with just 17 points, but he did his best work down the stretch. Mikal Bridges dominated the fourth quarter, getting the bulk of his 14 points in the final frame, and he made more clutch plays on defense, including the game ending block.

The real stat collectors in this one were Josh Hart and Karl Anthony Towns. Hart went for 23 points on 9/15 from the floor, with six boards and three assists. Meanwhile KAT had 21 points and 17 REBOUNDS, like a man possessed on the glass. He was also backed up by Mitchell Robinson who had six points and eight boards of his own. The biggest difference from the other night for the Knicks was at the free throw line, where they went 8 of 10 after missing 15 in the opener. This was an all around effort as all the Knicks who played chipped in at both ends of the floor.
As if I haven’t said it enough already, it is unfathomable that the Knicks are in this spot. They have a chance to come home and take complete control over the series, against the defending champs. Make no mistake, nothing is decided, the Knicks don’t have a strangle hold on this series yet. The Celtics don’t look like themselves with injuries, cold shooting and perhaps fatigue from last year’s run all playing a part their current predicament. But that doesn’t mean they can’t turn things around quickly in this series. The challenge before the Knicks is to not give them any hope. Don’t let them back in the series, bury them. Saturday is one of the biggest Knicks games in just about 30 years. The Garden will be rocking and hopefully it’s another magical day like today.

Wednesday was a good day all around town. The Knicks won game two. The Islanders celebrated winning the NHL draft lottery as they get the number one pick. Juan Soto teed off for two homers to get the Mets a series win! Meanwhile the Yankees got a much needed series win over the Padres thanks to a walk off from JC Escara in the 10th.
This is the kind of night that makes you love being a sports fan in this town! Let’s hope we have a bunch more in the days and weeks ahead!
