Hello friends welcome back to the subway beat. This past week for the Mets was… dare I say disappointing? The Mets lost back to back series for the first time all season after losing 2 out of 3 to both the Diamondbacks and the Cardinals. Let’s dive into it.
The Good

Polar Bear Power: Pete Alonso has been nothing short of outstanding to start the season. He leads the NL in OPS by over 150 points, he also leads in batting average on base percentage and is 2nd in RBIs and 3rd in home runs. Not to mention his strike out rate is way down. If it wasn’t for that alien in pinstripes Alonso would be the talk of the league.
The Bad

Holy Injury Bug Batman: Since I last wrote to you guys the Mets lost Danny Young (who I specifically named to step up for AJ Minter) for the season with an elbow injury. They lost Jesse Winker for an extended period of time to a back injury. Suddenly the pen looks a little thin and the bench depth takes a hit.
Offensive Struggles: Hitting with runners in scoring position or lack there of really reared its head in an ugly way for the Mets this past week. All I ask is let’s be rational please? The Cardinals series the Mets were shockingly unlucky. Juan Soto got a 3 run home run robbed, multiple diving catches. It was patently absurd. Just relax with the meltdown stuff, it’s a long season this stuff will even out.
Highlight of the Week

Beware of Frank the Tank Syndrome: Guys I’m not telling you it’s time for us to dig up our Covid masks and run for shelter. But I’m saying this, there are people on the internet and in media who just love to be a boohoo sky is falling fan 24/7. Fighting this pandemic is simple, you ignore the problem. Trolls feed off the attention you give them and if you let them scream into the void they eventually get bored. I’m not telling anyone how to be a fan but if you’re idea of being a fan is declaring the season dead at the first sign of adversity then I think you have some bigger issues to sort out.
Our beloved Mets are in Arizona for a 3 game set before they come back home to face off against the electrifying Chicago Cubs in a 3 game set at Citi Field.
