Hello friends welcome back to the Flushing Files. It was a solid week for the Mets who took 2 out of 3 wins from the Marlins and the A’s. This week they face off with the Minnesota Twins and then have a 4 game set with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Good

Mr. Ghost Fork

Kodai in control – In 2 starts this week Kodai Senga was fantastic. He gave up zero earned runs across 12 innings of work. The start against the A’s was particularly impressive because of the efficiency in which he went through his 7 innings. Carlos Mendoza still seems to be capping him around 80 pitches which is not an issue for me. I’m not worried about April it’s about the long haul and this team needs Kodai to be great.

The man of the hour

MVPete – Let me start by saying the MVP thing is in jest. With that said Alonso continues to tear the cover off the baseball. He sits 6th in the league in OPS and tied for 3rd in RBIs.

The Bad

Sluggish offense– The offense still hasn’t found it’s footing completely. Particularly the bottom half of the order. Brett Baty, Mark Vientos have had brutal starts. Luisangel Acuna hasn’t taken control of the 2B job as I hoped. And the centerfield spot has been a zero offensively. But big picture am I going to be a boohoo doomsday Mets fan? No way, not a chance. The Mets are 10-5 without getting dominant starts from Francisco Lindor or Juan Soto. Patience Mets fans, for the love of all things good be patient.

2022 Diaz is missed

Edwin Diaz… it’s never easy- Edwin has been shaky to start there’s no sugar coating it. Friday night he gave up 2 earned runs and Wednesday he got torched for 3 earned. It seems like every outing that a batter or 2 gets on base. Again I’m not going to say the sky is falling but hopefully he improves soon.

Highlight of the week

I want to give a hat tip to Hayden Senger. Senger has filled in admirably while Francisco Alvarez is out and Luis Torrens was banged up for a few days. Senger, a former 24th round draft pick out of Miami (OH) Senger was at it in the minors since 2018. 7 years later he played a very solid catcher and even chipped in with a few hits.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
