For all the panic and hysteria in the streets, the Knicks are settling into a nice groove. They have won three in a row, and 14 of their last 20 as we head towards the Christmas Day NBA schedule. That schedule will see the Knicks, now 18-10, take on the Spurs who are fighting for a playoff spot out west. Sitting third in the East, the Knicks look primed for a big back half of the season, which should get them a top three seed which is critical to a long run. But before we start looking ahead, let’s talk about what’s been working to this point.

KAT and the boys have been having some fun

It’s hard to overstate how well Karl Anthony Towns has been playing for this team. He’s playing 34 minutes a night for them, averaging 24 points, 14 rebounds and three assists per game. He saved his best moment for this past week in Minnesota, against his old squad. Towns took the Wolves to the cleaners, with 32 points (10-12 from the field), 20 boards and six assists. For all the debate surrounding the trade between these two teams, Towns is quickly quieting any thought that he and the Knicks haven’t come out ahead.

At the end of the day, this team goes as Brunson goes

Of course where Towns goes, Jalen Brunson goes too. The new Knicks tandem is flat out dominant at times, and their growing chemistry makes them an absolute nightmare to guard. Brunson, much like KAT, decided to show off on this week’s road trip, with a massive game against the Pelicans. Number 11 went for 39 points (13-19 shooting), with six assists. The captain is absolutely cooking in the two man game, calming any fears that this team couldn’t click.

The Knicks enjoying their win in Minny

Perhaps the even better news for the Knicks than things clicking is their new found depth as players return from injury. Precious Achiuwa returned this week to give them added depth from the forward position. Precious is always good for high energy plays which fits the culture of this team, and makes for quality bench minutes.

The January slate sees the Knicks take on some of the top teams including OKC, Denver, Milwaukee

It was also announced Sunday that the now healthy Landry Shamet is going to join the team, as he was signed from G-League West Chester. Shamet will help lengthen a back court that needs to spell, Brunson, the injured Hart and the resurgent Bridges. More bodies can’t hurt at all! So Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the Knicks and your family on Christmas Day!

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
