While this season is a lost cause last week felt damn good. Felt good to see a bunch of winners hit. So let’s try and finish this season strong. Last week we went 4-1 +3.47 units. That brought us to 26-31 -4.31 units. One more good week could just get us close to even which would be a nice feat. Before the picks I need to talk Thanksgiving eve. Thanksgiving eve is an elite drinking event of the year. You know what that means. Another Sheerin ranking special. This will be my definitive ranking of drinking holiday/event for the year. To me what characterizes a drinking holiday is that it doesn’t circle around a family meal or family time in general.
- St. Patrick’s Day- My family heritage makes me predisposed to loving St. Patrick’s Day. The weather is usually starting to turn around this time of year. It is usually accompanied by March madness or conference tournament week. Deadly combo.
- Thanksgiving Eve- No messing around no gimmicks. You hit your local watering hole, say hello to the kids you graduated high school with and have a damn good time.
- 4th of July- The event of the summer. Around my neck of the woods it’s absolute chaos around here. Lines at every bar, traffic everywhere. If you do the barbecue you need to have a pool or else it can get really uncomfortable in the heat. With all that said grills, beers and fireworks. Undefeated combination.
- MDW- Memorial Day Weekend is the kickoff of summer. Everybody is in a good mood, the shore bars are operating at full tilt. The weather isn’t quite the peak summer heat yet either which is wonderful.
- Labor Day Weekend- Speaking from experience, packing up and moving out of your shore house on Labor Day Monday is just miserable. It’s the end of summer. People are sad, the hangover is even stronger because you’re exhausted and everyone is mentally locked into football and lame fall activities.
- New Years Eve- I’m going to start a dialogue. New Years Eve stinks. It’s the tail end of the holidays you’ve probably been traveling non stop eating like garbage the whole way. All you want is a good nights sleep, nope! You stay up to watch a lousy ball drop. The bars are wildly overpriced, you’re probably dressed fancier than you want to be. NYE sucks.
I said it on the podcast but I want to say it here as well. In the year 2024 you have so many different options to get home that don’t involve having a few drinks then potentially getting behind the wheel. Please use your good sense, call the Uber or lyft etc.
Last thing. Cal beat Stanford in a classic ACC rivalry out west. The highlight of the game was Cal’s equipment manager absolutely bodying some kid for trying to steal a helmet.
Check out the pursuit and the closing speed. He keeps his shoulders square then finishes beautifully. Now for the picks.

Memphis @ Tulane -13.5 o/u 56.5
Tulane is on the brink of a playoff berth. Coach John Sumrall knows they have to have this one. But the Memphis Tigers will have something to say here. Both these teams can score score score so I’ll take over 56.5.

Florida @ Florida State +14.5 o/u 45.5
Florida State is coming off a monster win over mighty Charleston Southern. When Mike Norvell was building up for this season I’m sure he had that one circled in spring practice. Florida is absolutely rolling in all phases. I can’t explain what the “It” factor is, but DJ Lagway has “It”. My guess is Florida shows up to Tallahassee looking to embarrass an in-state rival. Give me Florida -14.5.

UTSA @ Army -7 o/u 54.5
Do you like stats? I like stats. Here’s an interesting one, this season teams are 0-9-1 against the spread after playing Notre Dame. The one push was Florida State who was coming off a bye. This is a dangerous spot for Army. I’ll take UTSA +7.

South Carolina @ Clemson -2.5 o/u 49.5
Clemson and Dabo Swinney know they have to win this game. Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks still have an outside shot at crashing this party. I’m predicting a physical rock fight down in Clemson, South Carolina. For my Gamecocks to win I think the key will be keeping Klubnik in the pocket. Don’t let him use his legs and extend plays. If he beats you with his arm you tip your cap. Gamecocks +2.5.

Purdue @ Indiana -29.5 o/u 56.5
Indiana is coming off a brutal loss to the buckeyes but all is not lost. They are still firmly in the playoff picture. Purdue stinks to the high heavens this is a totally lost season for the boilermakers. I think the Hoosiers roll here. I’ll take Indiana -29.5.
