Year to Date: 14-17-1 (-4.1 units)

I don’t really know what to say other than last week was an unmitigated disaster. It felt like a few of our picks had at least a shot at the end of games but nothing went our way. I really don’t have much else to say other than I promise to wipe that from my memory so it never happens again, we will get back on track this week.

Texas-Arkansas Over 57.5

Against a suspect Razorbacks defense, it doesn’t matter if it’s Ewers or Manning throwing the ball

This is my favorite bet of the week, simply because I want to see some fireworks between two offenses that can provide them in spades. Texas is gearing up for a run in the College Football Playoff and wants to continue its hot run of form, and on the other side Arkansas wants to prove they’re no push over regardless of their record on the season. The Razorbacks took advantage of their bye week and got some important pieces back healthy, as it looks like star Quarterback Taylen Green will start after suffering a knee injury against Ole Miss. Stud running back Ja’Quinden Jackson looks prepared to return after a two game absence with an ankle injury, and he has been much needed. The Longhorns have one of the most high powered offenses in the country, I don’t have any worries that they can put up strong numbers against a suspect Arkansas defense, if the Razorbacks can at least keep things in the same ballpark I think this number flies over.

Oregon -13.5 vs Wisconsin

Camp Randall at night will be a challenge for the Oregon Ducks

Another team with their eyes set on a trip to the College Football Playoff, the Oregon Ducks have been firing on all cylinders the entire season, and I don’t think that stops this week. Everyone knows what kind of weapon Dylan Gabriel is at the quarterback position, but I think the portion of the Ducks offense that will win them this game is being completely overlooked, the run game. Wisconsin is allowing 164.6 rush yards per game (92nd in the country) and Oregon can lean heavily on their top dog at the position, Jordan James, should the passing game not open up like they want it to. James is 18th in the country in rush attempts and ranks 47th in yards per carry (5.70), they shouldn’t feel the need to force things with Gabriel, especially in a tough environment like Camp Randall. For the Badgers, I just don’t see much to like. The offense is a mess ever since Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke went down with a season ending knee injury early in the season. No win is a given, Oregon can’t look past this matchup but I do think if they keep their heads down this could end up being a blowout.

Kansas State -7.5 vs Arizona State

Avery Johnson looks to turn the page after a rough loss to Houston

This feels like the perfect spot to buy low on the Kansas State Wildcats in a season where they’re looking to win the Big 12. Coming off of a nasty loss to Houston before their bye last week, the Wildcats are still a very good team that matches up well with Arizona State’s strengths. With star running back Cam Scattebo looking likely to return for the Sun Devils, Kansas State is going to have their hands full, but their defensive unit should be up for the task. The Wildcats currently rank 8th in the entire country in rush yards allowed per game (99.4 yards per game, 3.12 yards per carry), so this unit going up against an offense that has a 62% rush rate because they don’t trust their pass game feels like a match made in heaven. The Wildcats had a full week to get healthy and stew over that loss to Houston, so I fully expect the team to come out and make a point against an Arizona State team that has been a pleasant surprise, but also feel like a team that’s lucky to be in the spot they are.

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
