Year To Date: 14-14-2 (-1.1 units)
Another profitable week in the books. It would be great if we could get a clean sweep week to really make a dent, but we continue to chip away in an attempt to get back in the black. I don’t love the board this week, but there are a few games I have leans on. This feels like a “hold onto your butts” type of week for our bets, but we have to hope for the best.
Iowa State -2.5 vs Kansas

Iowa State’s chances at making the College Football Playoff took a pretty significant hit last week as they fell at home to Texas Tech. They need a spotless end to the season to have a shot, and I think this is a great spot for them to get back on track. While their loss last week was a tough pill to swallow, the Cyclones defensive unit did their part, holding a pretty strong Red Raiders offense to just 23 points. Iowa State prides themselves on not allowing opponents to run the ball, they rank 87th in the country in rushing yards allowed per game, and while that doesn’t seem like a crazy number it more than doubles Kansas’ rank (187th). The Jayhawks offense is centered around their run game, with both quarterback Jalon Daniels and running back Devin Neal posing a significant threat with their legs. I don’t see Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht having much trouble moving the offense, so if the Cyclones defense can hold up I think Iowa State could win this one pretty handedly.
UNLV -13 vs Hawaii

Going back to the well with my favorite team to bet on this season. The UNLV Rebels are coming off of a sorely needed Bye week after a heartbreaking loss to Boise State that pretty much crushed their dreams of making the College Football Playoff. The defensive unit was run ragged over the last few weeks, not looking like the elite unit we watched to start the season, so a week to get everyone fresh could be just what the doctor ordered. Hajj-Malik Williams will look to get the team back on track against a surprisingly stout Hawaii defensive unit that has come along over the last few weeks (33 points allowed in last two weeks, both wins). I know I always say not to bet against the Rainbow Warriors on the Big Island, but with the Rebels having an extra week of preparation against a very up and down Hawaii offense, I’ll lay the points with my guys from Sin City.
BYU -3 vs Utah

We’re reaching the end of the regular season, and yet the BYU Cougars are somehow still being overlooked. Now up to #9 in the national rankings, the Cougars are in prime position to make the playoffs should they hold firm and top the Big 12. This year has been a disaster for Utah, as they have had to turn to backup quarterback Isaac Wilson early due to a season ending injury to starter Cam Rising. Wilson just has not looked comfortable manning the Utes offense, and the team has suffered as a whole because of it. The defense isn’t at fault for this lost season, as they have still looked as sharp as ever (30 points allowed in last two games), but they have a big task ahead of them stopping quarterback Jake Retzlaff. Losers of four straight games, Utah is going to have to fight just to become bowl eligible this season, and I don’t see this as the week they magically turn things around. Just like last week I’m taking the team who has something to play for, the Cougars have their sights set on an invite to the playoffs and I don’t think head coach Kalani Sitake will allow the team to look too far ahead and get caught with a needless loss. I don’t know how much longer the rest of America is going to continue to undervalue this BYU team, but I’ll gladly take them once again.
