Wow where do I even begin?

I’ll do my best to surmise this Mets season but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share Howie Rose’s closing thought on the radio call last night.

One of the best

The Mets magical season came to an end last night in Los Angeles. The Dodgers closed out the series in game 6 and the Mets went out fighting which filled me with immense pride because it was a reflection of who these guys were all season.

Following the 2022 season which was one of the most crushing ends in the history of the Mets. Then the 2023 season which was one of the most frustrating and miserable seasons I’ve endured as a Mets fan. I like most of the fanbase had low expectations coming into this season. It was dubbed a transition season by most in the organization. As you all know by now April 2nd Gary Cohen uttered the famous 0-5 rock bottom line. On June 2nd when the Mets were 24-35 and the fanbase was angry and dejected who could have saw any of this coming?

That’s why this season was so important. It took a fanbase that had the scars of the last near decade and healed the wounds. It made a fanbase believe again. Down the road I won’t remember the day to day frustrations early in the season. I’ll remember the absolute joy this team brought me through the summer into the post season.

I’ll remember Francisco Lindor delivering one of the great seasons in the history of the New York Mets. I’ll remember Sean Manaea, the steady lefty emerging in his 30s as an ace. I’ll remember the breakout of Mark Vientos who is an absolute star in the making. I’ll remember Brandon Nimmo running out every walk and ground ball and infuriating opposing fanbases around the league. I’ll remember the arrival of Jose Iglesias. Who’s consistency in the field and at the plate along with the joy he brought to the ballpark everyday help this team come together. I’ll remember Starling Marte, who’s professional approach at the plate was so key down the stretch and in the post season. There is so much more but the last person I’ll highlight is Carlos Mendoza. Was he perfect? No. But his management of this team kept the group together when they could have come apart.

With all that being said thank you thank you thank you to the 2024 New York Mets for making me believe again. Enjoy some of these highlights to close out. LFGM. (Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis is playing as I watch these highlights so you should probably listen to that too).

All hail
Candelita forever
2 walk offs in 3 days
My MVP
My MVP (again)
The biggest home run in Pete’s career
My MVP (a 3rd time)
A star was born
The Polar Bear delivered at home

I can’t wait to see what happens in the offseason and I have never been more excited for a season than I am for the next one. There’s really one thing left to say…LFGM!

“Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams.”
