Guys it’s week 5 and we’re starting to get into the meat of the college football schedule. More on that later. We’re a quarter of the way into the season and I wanted to do something nice for the readers. Let’s talk about some of the profitable teams and some of the not so profitable teams out there. Through 4 weeks there are still a handful of teams that are 4-0 against the spread. BYU, Eastern Michigan, Ole Miss, Pitt, San Jose State, Tennessee and Texas. The ones that jump off the page to are BYU and Pitt. Nick and I talked about BYU on the pod but how about Eli Holstein and the Pitt Panthers? Of course as a Pat Narduzzi coached team they play hard on defense but the offense has stolen the headlines. Holstein an Alabama transfer was a highly rated recruit who transferred during the offseason and has been lighting it up to start the season.
Where there is good there is bad, where there is light there is darkness. The following teams are 0-4 against the spread. LSU, Kansas, Middle Tennessee State, NC State, TCU, Wyoming. It sort of got lost in the news cycle from last weekend but LSU struggled with UCLA. Tie game at the half, only up a touchdown going into the 4th, I’ve asked the question a bunch of times but what the hell is going on in Baton Rouge? It’s been disastrous for NC State and Kansas who had a lot of optimism coming into the season. But TCU now 2 years removed from a National Championship game appearance is struggling again. Should Sonny Dykes be worried? They got smushed by local rivals SMU last week and find themselves at 2-2.
The record for the season is now 7-11 -3.66 units. To give myself a few pats on the back last week was our first week in the positive and BYU was my sharpest pick of the season. Long May that continue. Now for the picks.

Virginia Tech @ Miami -17.5 o/u 53.5
A little Friday night special to start the picks! The Hurricanes are absolutely rolling into this week 5 matchup and they have looked dominant. The Hokies on the other hand have been anything but. They got outplayed last week by Rutgers at home. Kyron Drones has struggled and the defense looks soft. Give me the Canes -17.5.

Nebraska @ Purdue +10.5 o/u 47.5
Last Friday we watched the Cornhuskers lose a game that they’ve lost 100 time in the last decade. Coaches change, players change, yet the results remain the same in one score games. The good news is they head to West Lafayette to play who I think is the worst team in the Big Ten. Give me Nebraska -10.5.

Eastern Michigan @ Kent State +14.5 o/u 45.5
We’re talking MAC-tion baby this is what it’s all about! Kent State has been beat like an old rug to start the season. Pounded by the likes of Penn State and Tennessee the last two weeks I think Kent State comes into this game beat up and low on confidence. Give me EMU -14.5.

Georgia @ Alabama +1.5 o/u 48.5
The biggest game of the season so far you just have to bet games like this***. The Dawgs come into this game banged up. Defensive end Mykel Williams has been dealing with an injury, and their best offensive lineman Tate Ratledge has already been ruled out of the game. Meanwhile Alabama has been very good to start this season but they have been very reliant on the explosive plays. Georgia still has an exceptional secondary headlined by Malaki Starks that can limit those explosive plays. Here is my one question for both of these teams heading into Saturday. The team that has the best answer will likely be the winner. Georgia, can Carson Beck take command and play to the level that all the talking heads have him slotted at. Alabama can Jalen Milroe be consistent enough to drive the ball downfield against a great Georgia defense? I said it on the podcast and I’ll say it again here, the tide rolls give me Bama on the money line +105.
***You do not have to bet this game I was being facetious. The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, call the gambling hotline.
