Last weekend the picks were a move in the right direction. Let me be clear I do not want to be 5-9 -4.36 units a month into the season. But last weekend felt like a step in the right direction.
Speaking of last weekend I was blessed to be one of the thousands of people who descended on beautiful Asbury Park, New Jersey for Sea Hear Now music festival. I got to see one of my new favorite artists on Saturday Noah Kahan. Then Sunday I got 3 hours of The Boss. Bruce fuckin Springsteen, from Freehold, New Jersey.

I swear to you when Bruce came down the side of the stage he was about 25 feet away. One of the best nights of my life, it’s an absolute blessing to live in this area of New Jersey. That’s our cross section with popular culture (you’re welcome Nick), now back to football.

Utah @ Oklahoma State -2.5 o/u 52.5
As I write this the status of Utah QB Cam Rising is still murky. I expect him to play but I think he’ll be limited. On Oklahoma State they are still looking to get Ollie Gordon rolling but Alan Bowman has done a good job leading the team at quarterback. Fun stat time! As a road team Utah is 8-11-1 since 2020, for whatever reason the Utes are a different monster at home. But this game is in Stillwater. Give me the Pokes -2.5.

Kansas State @ BYU +6.5 o/u 47.5
Really heavy Mormon vibes to start the picks here. Kansas State is coming off an old school whoopin of Arizona at home and Oklahoma State comes to town next weekend. Meanwhile BYU very quietly is 3-0. Jake Retzlaff has been solid at quarterback and the Cougars have a good defensive unit who will be looking to prove themselves this week. This will be Avery Johnson’s first conference road game. I like BYU +6.5 and if you’re feeling bold maybe even take a peek at the moneyline.

Tennessee @ Oklahoma +7.5 o/u 56.5
Everything and I mean everything has gone right for the Tennessee Volunteers to start this season. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava has emerged as a Heisman favorite, the offense is a machine. The defense has been magnificent. Meanwhile the Oklahoma Sooners have been somewhat of a disappointment. Young quarterback Jackson Arnold has been inconsistent and they struggled with Houston and Tulane the last two weeks. Everything in my brain says it’s Tennessee and that Oklahoma stinks. But this is college football and I think home field gives the Sooners juice. Give me the Sooners +7.5.
One last note, Michigan State travels to Boston College this weekend. In the grand scheme of college football this is far from the biggest game. But it is the annual Red Bandana Game for BC. If you are unfamiliar with the story of the Man in the Red Bandana I highly recommend you take 15 minutes and watch this.
Hug your loved ones, tell someone you appreciate them and enjoy your weekend.
