Year to Date: 4-2 (+1.9 units)
Another solid week of gambling in Week 2 of the college football season. While the numbers won’t jump off the page at you, progress is progress and we continue to give out winners to build that bankroll. This week’s slate isn’t filled with a ton of Top 25 matchups, but there are a bunch of games that could turn out to be barn burners. Like always, we should be in for a fun week.

Chandler Morris could be the missing key to unlock the Mean Green offense
North Texas +10 vs Texas Tech
A matchup between two teams from the Lone Star State, it doesn’t seem like fans will be left without excitement in this one. North Texas has been rolling so far behind TCU transfer QB Chandler Morris, who somehow is already over 700 yards passing on the season. He has had his struggles with turnovers, already throwing three interceptions, but if he can hold onto the ball he can absolutely shred a Texas Tech defense that has shown no signs of being able to stop anyone. Against Abilene Christian, the Red Raiders gave up 500 yards passing then followed it up with an abysmal showing against Washington State, giving up 300 yards on the ground. No matter who you’re playing that simply won’t get it done, but if quarterback Behren Morton can turn around a tough start to the year the offense should at the least be able to keep them in it against an uninspiring North Texas defense. I would take the over in this game, but the number has already ballooned to almost 70 points, so instead I’ll take the double digit underdog who is playing with a ton of confidence.

Expect a heavy dose of CJ Donaldson on Saturday
West Virginia -2 vs Pittsburgh
The famous Backyard Brawl is sure to be a doozy. Both teams come in having shown mixed results, although the home Pittsburgh Panthers are coming in with a spotless 2-0 record. That is a bit misleading, as they stole a game last week against Cincinnati that they really had no right of winning. Alabama transfer quarterback Eli Holstein has found success slinging the rock early in the season, but has gotten extremely lucky as he looks prone to turning the ball over (8 turnover worthy plays through 2 games). The Panthers have shown resilience, but I think we see some overdo regression here. On the other side this feels like an early must win game for the Mountaineers. After dropping their first game against Penn State, West Virginia really can’t afford to drop below .500 to a team that many believe they’re better than. West Virginia’s rushing attack seemed to get going after being stifled in the opening week by the Nittany Lions, running back CJ Donaldson gashed Albany for 125 yards and speedster Jahiem White added on another 100 yards on the ground. Pittsburgh’s defensive line was much stronger last year, and on top of that lost longtime defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who took a job with the Indianapolis Colts. Expect the Mountaineers to go run heavy and control the clock, limiting Holstein’s opportunities to let it fly for Pittsburgh.

Can Taylen Green overshadow the Razorbacks’ subpar coaching?
UAB vs Arkansas over 60.5 points
If you miss the days of Chip Kelly running the Oregon offense until his players legs fell off, boy do I have the game for you. UAB and Arkansas are both in the top 20 of seconds per play through the first two weeks, they both run a lot of hurry up and don’t mind taking risks. Quarterback Taylen Green has been electric as the new signal caller for the Razorbacks, already throwing for over 600 yards and adding another close to 150 on the ground. Green hasn’t used his legs as the first option for big plays yet but he has the ability to do so especially against a UAB defense that has been prone to giving up big plays. With two teams who run their offenses this quickly, I have a tough time betting anything other than the over. Buckle up.
