Welcome to our 30 Clubs in 30 Days preview of the MLB season. We are kicking things off with the defending NL Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona is coming off of a surprise run to the NL pennant thanks to a talented young core coming of age in October. Corbin Carroll headlines a group that features talented youngsters Gabriel Moreno, Geraldo Perdomo, and Alek Thomas with more on the way. They bolstered the team with offseason additions to the staff and lineup, with Joe Pederson, Eugenio Suarez and Eduardo Rodriguez being the biggest names. Let’s dive into the preview!
Keys to Success

1. A big year from E-Rod: The Diamondbacks rotation was carried to the NL pennant by Zac Gallen and Brandon Pfaadt. While they did an admirable job, upgrades were needed, enter Eduardo Rodriguez. The lefty comes in from the Tigers and should be real lift to a staff in need of quality innings and big game experience, something he gained in Boston’s 2018 World Series run.

2. No sophomore slump for Corbin: Very few players have burst onto the scene and delivered on the promise like Corbin Carroll did last year. The talented lefty outfielder was the unanimous rookie of the year winner in 2023 and will look to replicate that season this time around. If he delivers again, he may be an MVP front runner this season.

3. Paul has the ninth on lock: The back end can be an Achillies heel for the best of teams and the Diamondbacks will be relying upon Paul Sewald to do the job. Sewald joined the “snakes” last deadline and proved vital to helping an already talented pen lock down games. They will need him to do the same this year to ensure success.

The Prediction

90 Wins and a Wild Card Spot
While some are doubting the Diamondbacks chances at continued success, I am remaining in their camp this year and expect an improved regular season. A pennant hangover can be a real thing though so keep an eye on how they start the season.
